Our Roots

Our mushrooms grow from the consumption of forest waste harvested from properties in Quincy.

Our ingredients are few:

  1. Wood Chips generated from forest thinning (Douglas Fir, White Fir, Ponderosa Pine and occasionally Black Oak);

  2. Grain Spawn (grains such as rye or millet that mushroom mycelium has grown through);

  3. Water.

Our outputs are powerful:

  1. Fresh, locally grown Mushrooms.

  2. Nutrient rich soil for farming or to be spread back into the forests we steward.

The process involves:

  1. Generating Wood Waste (usually by harvesting fire wood or wood for building and chipping the limbs and treetops);

  2. Processing into substrate ready for inoculation;

  3. Mixing the substrate with grain spawn;

  4. Incubating mixtures in temperature controlled environment;

  5. Fruiting in humidity controlled environment;

  6. Harvesting & delivering to local markets;

  7. Composting the decomposed wood waste to be returned to the forest.
